Developing your style
I was on Discord the other day and I came by the question from an artist “how do you get your style?” which inspired me to write this. Whether you’re an animator, illustrator, designer, creative developer, or any creative role, you know that some people you admire have a certain style or a unique chef’s kiss on how to create.
Well, if you’re wondering, how do I get my own style? How do I become recognizable by just people seeing my work? Well, you can’t just declare that you’re going for a certain style for the rest of your career. It doesn’t work that way. Developing your own style comes naturally, by just creating frequently and enjoying it, you’ll slowly realize that you have a unique method at how you do your work. Your style also develops because you have a certain interest, belief, and experience, influencing your work overtime.
One example where interests can affect your style is a motion design legend Sander van Dijk. He has a fascination with geometry and math and you can see it with his work for Google on Material Design or in Sana.
Your own chef’s kiss on your work will come one day so just keep on working on the projects you truly care about and enjoy it!
